Great news for Kiwi travelers! Starting July 1, 2024, New Zealand passport holders can visit China without a visa for short stays of up to 15 days for tourism, business, family visits, or transit. This exciting change is part of China’s expanded visa-free policy, which now includes New Zealand, Australia, and Poland as part of a trial running until December 31, 2025
What Does This Mean for You?
No visa required for short trips (up to 15 days).
Eligible purposes: Tourism, business meetings, family visits, and transit.
Passport requirement: Must be a regular passport (diplomatic/official passports still need visas).
Entry points: All major international airports and border crossings in China.
What's Not Covered?
Stays longer than 15 days still require a visa.
Work, study, journalism, or permanent residency activities are not permitted under this policy.
Why Is This Happening?
China is making travel easier to boost tourism and business ties. This follows similar visa waivers for European and other Asia-Pacific countries, making China more accessible than ever!
What Should You Bring?
While no visa is needed, border officials may ask for:
Proof of onward travel (return/connecting flight).
Hotel bookings or invitation letters (if visiting family/friends).
Travel insurance (highly recommended).
What If You Want to Stay Longer?
If your trip exceeds 15 days, you'll still need to apply for a Chinese visa before traveling.
Final Thoughts
This is a fantastic opportunity for Kiwis to explore China hassle-free—whether it's the Great Wall, Shanghai's skyline, or Chengdu's pandas. Just pack your passport, book your flights, and enjoy your trip!
